Drop what you're doing and read this!

Ladies- It's time to drop what you're doing and read this book! This is another find from yesterday's library excursion. I didn't mention this book before because I hadn't had a chance to skim it yet. Oh, I'm HOOOKED! Here's the link at Amazon. You can Do it!

Now, I just need some friends to sign up in my little Girl Scout Troop for Grown Up Girls and start living life!

Currently Reading...

This afternoon I checked out about 8 books from my library. 3 childrens' books, 1 book about making slipcovers for living room furniture, and 2 biographies about Clyve Staples (C.S.) Lewis. I think I actually experience an adrenaline rush on my way into the library. Have I mentioned that I love books?

Here's a quote my Hubby emailed me today. I think it's so...good.
"In those days spirits were brave, the stakes were high, men were real men, women were real women and small furry creatures from Alpha Centauri were real small furry creatures from Alpha Centauri." — Douglass Adams

In case you've never read any Douglass Adams before, check out The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Good stuff, but pretty random.

Making Christmas Cards

I've been printing, cutting, folding, and shipping like crazy. This is my busiest time of the year. Here's my favorite card from this year's Holiday Line at Danidoodle.

Recently I streamlined my process with my ingenius idea of printing in such a way that I have less cuts to make. Today, I visited USPS Online and realized I could print shipping labels and pay for them from the comfort of my own office! THAT is going to save me some SERIOUS time. Have you ever tried carrying four packages, your purse, AND a 20 lb. squirming infant into YOUR local post office?

Update on the Turkey

For those of you following the saga, Thanksgiving at my place went well. The turkey was awesome. We cooked it in an Oven Bag, just like several friends had recommended. You gotta try these! Hubby made some awesome Sweet Potatoes with Marshmallows. Yum! And I made Cranberry Sauce out of real fresh actual cranberries. None of that stuff served in the shape of the inside of a can!

Other than that, the table looked awesome with candles and pinecones as the center piece.

Of course, I forgot to take a picture. Shoot.

Tent Rocks National Monument

We went hiking yesterday. It was SO good to get out-of-doors. I could feel my heart and soul expanding, just by having open space (no cars, no city-smell, no sirens, no airplanes flying over).

Here are pix from the unique-scape at Tent Rocks National Monument.
This is from the beginning of the hike, at the bottom of the ravine.

This is half way through, just as you start up out of the ravine.

Here are a few 'tents' from the top. We could see for miles!

My cute hiking family. We forgot our lunch in the car!

My CURVES membership must be doing me some good, because I carried the Bubby all the way to the top...no problem! Hubby carried Bubby down, even though I wasn't tired. I mean, I've been carrying this kid his whole stinkin' life! What's another 3 miles uphill?

Thanksgiving Turkey

This year I will be roasting a turkey...by myself...for the first time! We're having Hubby's family over for Thanksgiving, so I do hope it turns out well, or even just edible! Here's an excerpt from a friend of mine about HER first Thanksgiving Turkey experience:

When my husband and I cooked our first bird by ourselves we had a riot. We could not have been more clueless. We didn't take the giblets (?) out of the neck so after it cooked this "baggie" looked like it was coming out of the hind-end of the turkey. (We didn't even know the neck from the hiney.) My husband asked me what it was and knowing he would gross out (like me - we're both wimps) I just said "Oh, nothing". Later he said "Was that it's poop-bag?" WHAT?! Like it had some kind of catheter or something!?

I thought this story was hilarious. Thanks for sharing it with me, CC!

Could I pass 8th Grade Science?

You Passed 8th Grade Science

Congratulations, you got 8/8 correct!

After taking this test, I sat here trying to remember my 8th grade science teacher. I can't remember her name! She had dark hair. That's all I remember!

Boba Tea : New Favorite Carb Source

So, I'm into Boba Tea. I first had it on a trip to East Asia in 1999 I think it was. It was 'weird' then and it's 'weird' now. But I'm quirky and I like quirky things...and Boba Tea (also called Bubble Tea) is one of them! Later, my best friend really got into it, ordered her own supplies and had a Bubble Tea Party. Well NOW, a local place has opened. It's sweet. You can check it out here: Boba Tea Company. Basically, Boba Tea is an iced drink (usually but not always tea) with a huge straw. At the bottom of the glass are these huge, chewy, black colored tapioca balls (like in tapioca pudding only gi-hugeous). So, find a local place and try some Boba Tea. But be careful, someone could seriously choke to death on one of those tapioca thingys and I can't be responsible for that.

Here's another Boba Tea resource: Wipedia Boba (Bubble) Tea Entry

Sweeteous

So, this is a post about made up words that I like to incorporate into my vocabulary. The newest I heard was 'Sweeteous' obviously a merging of Sweet! and Righteous! I like it. It's handy. I got this word from my brother & sister-in-law who heard it from a kid at their church.

Usage: You're driving into the grocery store parking lot, late for work. You really need to run in and buy some donuts, as you promised to bring them to your team's early morning meeting (which you're late for). As you pull in, someone pulls out of a parking spot...right by the door. "Sweeteous!"

Another word you can use here, although you have to say it really loudly is "Rockstar!" (Meaning, Rockstars often get preferential parking treatment...so when you get to park near the front, you're a Rockstar. The parking spot is Rockstar. And the feeling you get as you run into the store is also Rockstar.) [If any of you know an actual Rockstar, could you ask them if they actually DO get preferential parking treatment? I don't personally know any real Rockstars.]

Another made up word that I really like is Buckstacy: the feeling you get when you find money you forgot you had. Usage: You're looking in your sock drawer for that particular pair of striped furry socks when you lay your hand on a $50 bill. You can't remember when/how that got there, but you yell, "Buckstacy!"

Sweeteous.

Diapers...millions of diapers.

I heard Americans toss like 46 million disposable diapers a DAY or something like that. That's a LOT of landfill.

I like cloth diapers, personally. I use them on Bubby. I use the ones I found over at Barefoot Baby. They are contoured, have elastic, and velcro closures. Good stuff. It works out well here in New Mexico, too. It's so dry and sunny here that these babies dry outside in the sun in no time! So I figure I help keep even more greenhouse gases out of the atmosphere that way.

But I'll tell you what I don't like. DIRTY POOPY SMELLY CLOTH DIAPERS.

That's all I have to say today.

Oh wait, one more thing. For those of you (DAD) who didn't think I'd actually USE the cloth ones for more than a few days (DAD), um. You were WRONG! Gotcha!
