You were Dying to Know

The NM State Insect. I know you were wondering. It's the Tarantula Hawk Wasp. (Which is on the left in the photo. The thing on the right is the Tarantula, which is an Arachnid, not an Insect, people.)

The THW is pretty much that baddest insect you'd ever want to meet. The chicks are sassy. You can read about them here.

And now you're thinking to yourself, "Self? Do you know what OUR state insect is?" to which your self replies, "Actually, Self, I don't know. Maybe we can look it up?" to which your selves reply to themselves, "I am so thankful for Doods, aren't you? We find all kinds of cool stuff there like a LIST of ALL the state insects!"

If your curiosity kills you and you actually DO look up your state's insect, please let me know.

like many of the other states, SD is represented by the honeybee. I think I got bit by your state insect yesterday as I was hiking near ubatuba, brasil (actually, I am guessing it was an arachnid). I have a welt that is as wide as my hand and reaches from the tip of my "tall man" to my palm's mid-point. this is why i prefer sitting inside and watching tv!
    missin' you--

I hope the rest of you doesn't swell up! you better get that thing checked. by a professional. i'm serious!

miss you, too. although i'm kind of used to it in the sense that we've never really lived in the same place for more than 10 days...and that only happened once!

your list is suspect. the washington state insect clearly should be Carpenter ants...no living person has ever seen the green garnered dragaon fly. but lots of us meet the dreaded carpenter ants.

    Indiana has no state insect.

  5. Gross. I read about your insect and it makes me afraid to come visit. I much prefer Florida's Zebra Longwing Butterfly thanks.

  6. Looks like your state insect can take down all the other state insects combined! I think I need to write to my legislator.
