Dead Worms Stink...

but live ones are cool!

Well, today was the big day at MOPS. We made vermicomposting bins! I mean, worm bins. I'm not positive why, but many of the worms had died by the time this morning rolled around. I think I was over-attentive or maybe it was a lack of enough moisture and not enough prayer. My friend Jacinda braved the smell and sorted through to find live worms for everyone. What a trooper!

But everyone who wanted to got to make a bin to take home. I just hope the moms have a good experience with these little wormlets. Eat, buddies, eat! Keep those kitchen scraps out of the landfill!

Here's a close up of my bin. Thanks, Ellen, for the photos.

My husband is a HERO

Two THOUSAND souls are thinking my husband is a hero today! Here's a picture:

We're talking about vermiculture at our local MOPS meeting on Tuesday and needed worms. They were express mailed to me, but I didn't hear the postal carrier ring the bell (out working in the yard). I thought he'd just leave the package...but he didn't...and I wasn't going to be able to pick it up until Monday morning! I seriously don't think the little dudes would've made it that long in a box. (This all happened last minute because a prior shipment of worms got left in a hot car...)

My amazing husband drove off and found the postal carrier in some other neighborhood and got the package for me! What a fiasco. But a great story.

These little dudes are all going to different homes on Tuesday. We're doing our part to save the planet, one worm poo at a time!

The great thing is, you can do this whether you live in the city, a condo, an apartment or a tent! Using worms to compost is not only faster than regular composting (you know, outside in a boring old compost pile) but worm poo is also a great natural fertilizer - oh, the benefits are endless.

Another Genre...

My husband and I worked on this awhile back. I'm thinking about a card line in this genre. What do you think? I'm thinking 12 year olds might really like it. I mean, I do.

Announcing New Cards...

I finally have some new cards up over at Danidoodle. Specifically new birthday cards. I really like these and use them every chance I get. So should you. Here's a little sample...

I've heard that it's really difficult to find cards to give to guys/boys/men - unless you really like dark green borders decorated with ducks or else race cars. Is this true? I've always made my own so I wouldn't really know. Well, now you have options, slightly cutesy options, but options nonetheless.

Didn't MEAN to get Carob...

I didn't mean to get this at the store. I meant to get the fruit-sweetened part and I meant to get the mint part and I meant to get the soy-non-dairy part. But I didn't mean to get the carob part. (I think it goes back to a traumatic experience as a child when my brother and I were given chocolate Easter bunnies that turned out to be carob.) I wanted chocolate. But, I must say, this is really rather tasty.
