September Art Project / day eleven

hubby, coffee, drawing. i just forgot the chocolate.
Just something fun I whipped up when Brian and I were hanging out drawing again. The ONLY problem with art dates for date night is that we don't talk a whole lot! I still think they are super fun.

It's like being alone, but together.

Introverts...you know what I'm talking about?

giftie for Bebo

The illustration with My Fave Pen
I've pretty much tanked on the last few holidays. I'm a terrible gift chooser! Especially for my husband. I always want so much for the gift to be loved. And then I psyche myself out. Of course, there's always this problem:
Repurposed Mat Board

Clear Glaze drying in the Sunshine
Me: What do you want for [this or that holiday]?

Him: I dunno. Maybe a CD?

Pause.

Him: Or this one [usually very technical, specific and expensive using jargon like F-stop or mm or focal length or gigabyte or other similar what-have-you] thing with these specs.

Me: (to myself) Yah, I'm not buying and/or ordering that. I don't even know what 'specs' ARE. And I would totally get the wrong one. He knows it and so do I.

But, this Valentine's Day I decided to make a little giftie. I got the idea from the illustration I did for the Illustration Friday challenge last week.

And I think he liked it.

Things I learned:

1) Try to have your project done more than 15 minutes before he gets home from work. It's less stressful that way. And it's also dry by that time. Not that I would know. On second thought, why not even finish it a day or two early?

2) Sewing scissors? Really?

3) Mat board is very thick. And I can't cut a straight line. I hope he didn't notice.
Awww...

Happy Valentine's Day!

So, Happy Valentine's Day - or as my littlest little likes to say 'Heppee Tavumtime's Day'!

Here's what we found when we came out into the kitchen this morning! Thanks Babe.

And here are some of the inner workings of my gift bag...SOCKS!

I love socks.

And my hubby lovingly labeled them with the days of the week. That made me laugh.

Now, before you get on my husband for giving me socks for Valentine's Day, let me just say that he done good. He knows me well. Love you, Bebo!
Here are two cute little Sweethearts. Posing with yogurt covered pretzels in their mouths. Of course.

engaging

So, I didn't really come up with any New Year's Resolutions this year. I mean, I thought about it, but really, I never, ever keep them! But, I have been thinking about ways I'd like to change - things I'd like to do more of because they seem good & right.

The main one I've been thinking about is engaging with my kids.

I'm kind of a list person. I can get overwhelmed with all the things I'm responsible for. And then, I make a list. (Not that I do half the things on the list, but it makes me feel better in the short term.) All this to say, that I can get wrapped up in the things to do, and I forget about just being.

In short, I want to just 'be' with my kids more this year.*

Recently, I heard in a sermon about a theologian whose journal mentioned going fishing with his son, and how it was such a waste of time when he could have been working. But the same day, mentioned in the son's journal, was a highpoint of the kid's life! I find that extremely sad. Sad that the dad had no idea how valuable that day actually was. He was too caught up in what he thought needed to be done - rather than the relationship with his boy.

Lord, help me to engage and 'be' with my kids more. They are so amazing and I want to soak up Your glory, displayed in them, every day.

*I'm happy to report that I just got done playing a great round of 'cash regishjer' with my daughter.

Lubbin my Hubbin

My husband is so great. I dropped my new cell phone in the kiddo pool today and in characteristically understanding fashion, my great hubby responded like this to my confession email:

In a few weeks. We’ll be like “remember that time when you dropped the phone in the swimming pool?” And you were all “totally worried about it.” And I was all “don’t worry about it, it’s kinda silly”. And then we had to get like a new cheapy phone from k-mart that looks like it belongs with Ken and Barbie play set. But then we discovered that the old phone still worked. So now you have two phones...

Love. That. Man.
